Tortured Wood? Hell yes! We’ve spent the last month breaking wood, slamming 40kg poles into stacks of debris, throwing pallets, planks and furniture around as loudly as possible! We also tortured wood in our quiet foley room, rendering half a dozen baskets into kindling & capturing some truly nasty crunches, creaks and breaks.

The inspiration for this library originates from a Tom Waits quote:
“I’m still looking for the ultimate sound of a real stress metal clang. I wanna hear…. the clang of all clangs!”

Wind chimes can be incredibly useful for colouring an ambience with subtle harmonics – I used them to great emotional effect as a nostalgic/memory device in the war film Home by Christmas. But they are also incredibly rewarding as source material for creating ambient textures and drones via processing. Bell trees and mark trees have been used over the years for many forms of 'magical' sounds, but their rich harmonic content does not limit their application to Disney impressions.

Recording with contact microphones is an area for exciting research. Drawing on the work of Alan Splet and Anne Krober, I began to experiment. This library is the result of hundreds of hours of experimentation and the conquest of exceptionally submissive sounds.
