The Murky World of Barry Adamson collects the best of the former Bad Seed's solo recordings. Adamson's moody, filmic songs mix sex and menace with impenetrable cool, especially on "The Vibes Ain't Nothing But the Vibes" and "Something Wicked This Way Comes," both from his 1996 album Oedipus Schmoedipus. Along with selected tracks from every album from Moss Side Story to As Above, So Below, The Murky World of Barry Adamson also includes three previously unreleased tracks: "Walk the Last Mile," "Mitch & Andy," and "Saturn in the Summertime." Murky World is a delectable sampler of Adamson's dark musical talents.

Barry is a bad seed that germinated into a barbed jazz noir fleur flecked with a punque angst. This is exotica taking a detour from south sea polynesia through the back streets of Salford to the Ill de France via Tin Pan Alley. It is a pot pourri of his self defined style, where Barry investigates himself at the scenes of various non crimes. Identity is what he searches within a whitewashed world. This is a compilation of the Jazz Extotique whirls culled form EP's and albums.

Algren and Preminger get the Barry treatment in the Man with the Golden Arm, a sublime stirring industrial punque jazz black. The original score gets a new drum bass track and is shorn of detox pretensions. It rushes with a new sexual urge and this transfixes the whole of this collection. Big Band Sex Jazz in two shades of monochrome pounding the streets with brash brass exuberance. Jazz Devil is the oeuvre, the cloven feet tap out arhythmic brass brash rhythms. The deville rests within the detail. Big Barry sounds of the Bamboozle signal the sound for Bond films to tap a calling card on the Black Deville's door. Whilst Vibes evoke Vision On a smooth sultry wind stirring track about the look across the room. Mitch and Andy is a trip into the Vega world of pulp fiction urban story telling. The other tracks leave their mark as theme tunes to a world disappearing into time drawn from the 50's and 60's worlds of Connery, Novak, Andress, McQueen and Bardot.

Search out the Niagara pictures for an erotically charged and themed interlude, if the mental pictures are not forming. Otherwise watch the smoke rings rise to tobacco stained ceilings, where air conditioning in the shape of a grease swathed fan twirls dead insects in a never ending ride.

Barry asks you to journey into the real, not the stage set.
